Is NotebookLM free?
Yes. NotebookLM, now called Gemini Notebook, is free with a Google account. Since 2 September 2026 chat and Studio usage is measured by compute (prompt complexity, chat length, number of sources and features used) and refreshes every 5 hours up to a weekly limit, instead of a fixed number of daily questions. The standard tier supports up to 50 sources per notebook. Paid Google AI plans raise the limits.

Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook in July 2026 and kept the no-cost tier. On 2 September 2026 the old fixed daily counts (such as 50 chat questions a day) were replaced by compute-based usage limits: bigger notebooks, longer chats and heavier features such as Audio and Video Overviews use more of your quota, which refreshes every 5 hours up to a weekly limit. Gemini Notebook shows your remaining usage at the bottom of the chat.
