Can NotebookLM translate sources?
NotebookLM can answer questions in one language about sources in another language, effectively translating as part of synthesis. It doesn't have a dedicated translate-the-document feature, but cross-lingual querying works well.
In more detail
NotebookLM supports cross-lingual workflows: upload a Spanish PDF, ask questions in English; upload Japanese articles, get an English summary; upload Chinese sources, ask in Chinese or English. The Gemini model translates as part of comprehension and response. There's no dedicated "translate this document" button, but you can ask "Translate the abstract of source 3 to English" and get a translation with a citation. For dedicated document translation, use Google Translate or DeepL on the source file first; for cross-lingual research synthesis, NotebookLM handles it natively.
