Does NotebookLM have an API?
Last verified: October 12, 2026
Not for personal accounts. As of 12 October 2026 Google documents no public consumer API for Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM). A Gemini Notebook Enterprise API is in Preview for Google Cloud customers. Notebook Toolkit offers a separate MCP server for its own saved library; it does not read Google notebooks.
In more detail
Personal Google accounts have no public Gemini Notebook API. Google Cloud customers can use the Gemini Notebook Enterprise API, which is in Preview (v1alpha) and includes creating notebooks and adding sources in batches; see Google Cloud documentation for access and terms. For personal accounts, practical options are Google Drive as a bridge (Gemini Notebook reads Drive files), Google Workspace Studio flows on Workspace accounts, or a companion extension such as Gemini Notebook Toolkit that captures pages and AI chats in your browser. Notebook Toolkit also runs a remote MCP server at /mcp so an AI assistant such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex can search the library you saved with it. That server exposes the Toolkit library, not the contents of your Google notebooks, and it authenticates with personal access tokens. Community tools that automate the web interface are unofficial and break when the interface changes.
