What are NotebookLM's limits?
Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) allows up to 50 sources per notebook on the standard tier, and each source can be up to 500K words or 200 MB. Since 2 September 2026 chat and Studio usage is measured by compute (prompt complexity, chat length, number of sources and features used) and refreshes every 5 hours up to a weekly limit. Paid Google plans raise these limits.
In more detail
The standard Gemini Notebook tier supports up to 50 sources per notebook and a per-source maximum of 500,000 words or 200 MB. On 2 September 2026 Google replaced fixed daily counts (previously 50 chat queries and 3 Audio Overviews a day) with compute-based usage limits that depend on prompt complexity, chat length, the number of sources and the features used, refreshing every 5 hours up to a weekly limit. Paid Google plans can raise these limits and add Audio Overview customization and shared notebooks, but plan names, availability, and pricing vary by account and region, so check Google's current Gemini Notebook help page before purchasing. Ways to use your quota well: keep notebooks focused (30 great sources beat 300 mediocre ones), start fresh chats for new questions instead of very long threads, and split very long PDFs into chapters.
